Our super charged world of rapid transportation, nearly instantaneous communication, AI, military expansionism, hunger, homelessness, and an overemphasis on entertainment needs the experience that comes by living long. The time is long since past to rid ourselves of the perennial search for younger leaders. What the world needs now is the proven experiential education of senior citizens. Even our elderly, who may be warehoused in nursing homes, have opinions worthy of consideration.
The United States of America has lost its respect for the oldest among us. Too many born later in our history have a very limited understanding of what is required to have a great nation. If there are those in your circle who wonder what can be done to rescue America, have them ask those who have the benefit of experiences learned by longevity.
Danger is everywhere. It is akin to walking through a timbered wilderness that you know is the habitat of venomous snakes. It is akin to carefully checking one’s steps when you are walking through a mine field. Survival will depend on whose experience you rely on for each step. If you trust someone who has no knowledge of snakes, you are in trouble. If you trust the judgement of someone who has never been near a minefield, you are quite likely to have a foot blown to smithereens.
The Halls of the U.S. Congress, the chambers of your state government, your county officials, or city hall will have the answers you need. They will give you the answers you expect but not necessarily the truth. So, when the decrees come down to you from any voice of governmental authority, check them with someone who has the benefit of years of experience. Check with someone who remembers several presidents, governors, county commissioners, and mayors. Check with someone who has lived under several seats of authority for many years. Then, and only then, can you be at least somewhat certain of the truth.
As a clergyman, I would be remiss if I ended this short essay without a reference to THE TRUTH (Jesus), who lived the ultimate experience as the veritable Son of God the creator. Jesus taught that the Kingdom of God was the genuine governmental authority. He entreats his students to “strive for the Kingdom” and all that is necessary for life will be provided (the Gospel of Matthew, Chapter 6, Verse 33).
