A THREAT
The 1984 movie, Terminator starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, has become famous for one line: "I'll be back!" Arnold wanted the line to be "I will be back," because he thought it sounded more futuristic. After several takes of the scene, they settled on the way the Director, James Cameron, wanted; thus, "I'll be back!" has been written in the annals of Hollywood history and has become a much-used phrase among people the world over.
A PROMISE
Someone else predicted that he would be back. His name was Jesus. We know him as Jesus the Christ, the Lord Jesus Christ, Jesus the Messiah (HAMMACHIA), The Son of man, and the Son of God.
In the Gospel according to St. John, chapter 14, verses 25 and 26, we have the report that Jesus said (and I paraphrase) "I'll be back."
Before I expound more on "I'll be back," it will assist us in our understanding when I remind you that when some people say I'll be back, the hearer may respond by asking, "Is that a threat or a promise?" to be humorous.
Now, with that out of the way, I return to the very important fact that Jesus promised he would return; so, millions believe he will, indeed, return to Earth.
In the Book of The Acts of The Apostles (the first history book of the church), Chapter 1, the first 11 verses, gives us Luke's report that Jesus left in a cloud and an angel informed the observers that "This Jesus, who has been taken up from you into heaven, will come in the same way you saw him go into heaven." (Vs 11). In other words, he will come again. He will be back!
For some, his promised return is a threat because they live in a way that shows they do not love the Man from Galilee, the living Son of the living God.
For millions, his promised return is a PROMISE of love, peace, and security.
Keep on looking, loving, and listening. There will be the shout of angels and the sounding of trumpets announcing the return of Christ. He said, "I'll be back!"
Stay blessed,
Paul
